Name in Symbols

I Searching for things that resemble Letters of my name, I found the letters S, O, and T have alot of things that look like them.  the Letter’s H and R were harder to find something to represent them.

It seems to me that the more common letters of the Alphabet are much easier to find representations for.

Few people realize how much design is used in every day life.  In today’s world one cannot do anything without seeing (or even using ) someone’s design.

Simple things that we do everyday like drinking a cup of coffee, the cloth we decide to wear, even the toothpaste we use in the morning. all these things were designed by someone. That person decide what colors, texture, layout etc. touse one the final product.

Design has become such a large part of our lives that we barely notice it at all.  Yet, someone somewhere took the time to put all those aspects together to make things we use everyday.

Can you think of anything that we use, anywhere to go, or anything that we do that doesn’t involve design?

Keno 002I am not really sure what drew me to this one. It is well layed out and uses red which is associated with eating establishments . The the yellow “O” and” ‘ ” stand out in the name. As well as have the different types of recupe in varying colors make them quckly noticed.

Keno 004I was drawn to this because it was wel lit and showed a great amount of detail. Even in the back ground you can see what is there. It also has a well balance ranged of color.  The different colors all blend together. The Brown Table and red Bowls  darwn you eye to the Post in the background and then to the item hanging on the wall in the  back.

Shape and Value

September 18, 2009 at 5:10 pm (Visual Lit.)

As with other design concepts, I have used with Shape and Value without giving them much thought.  I guess I do this because it is something that is so much part of the real world that one doesn’t seem to notice it until it is pointed out. After this weeks discussion on Shape and Value, I have begun to pay more attention to the affect that it has in much of what I do.

As I have stated before I do a lot of  work in my  yard, but I also,  have been doing a lot of remodeling to my house. I recently finished painting my dinning room.  When I was deciding on which colors to use was a long process. At first I was going to use 3 shades of red.  I was originally thinking that from the floor up to about 4′ was going to be a deep red. Then there going to be a 6″ border with the rest of the upper wall in a light red.

After looking at the available shades of red, I quickly decided that it would be the wrong color to use.  All the shades that I looked at gave me the wrong “Feeling”. The shades  were to depressing, or energetic. The darker shades  made it seem like the room was smaller than it was.

After awhile of looking at the different shade of red, I  began looking at other colors. Blues were calming. Greens made me think of being outside. When I started looking at the Browns, they gave me a more comfortable feel.  After close to an hour, I had decided to use 3 different shades of brown.

In the end, from the Wall up about 4′ is a medium Shade of Brown. Then there is a 6″ Border of a Dark Brown with the rest of the wall a light Tan.

Though, I painted the room before the discussion on shade and value, I realized that it played a big part in my influencing my decision on what colors to paint the Dinning Room. I want a room that was comfortable to sit in, yet pleasing to the eye.  Now I realize that had I choose the darker colors that I was wanting to use, the room would have appeared smaller and more (I guess the word is) sinister.

Week 2

September 7, 2009 at 1:04 am (Visual Lit.)

Over the last few weeks, I have been tilling my yard and getting ready to grass, flower and other plants.  when i take a break I find my self looking over the yard planing on where to plant things.  taller plants toward the back, those color plant over there. Other colored plants over here. On one of these breaks, I was reading for class and realized how my usage of space and line affected what I was doing in the yard.

The size and shape of the yard combined with the types  of plants I want to put in the yard is like creating a design. I want to have my yard Pleasing sit back and look at while at the same time leave enough space to have kids run and play in.

Read about Space and Lines, i have determined that I want the land scaping fo the yard to draw attention to the center of the yard. Taller plant towards the fence. Shorter plants in front of those. In the corners, the plants will be in curved line to make the smooth out the ridgedness of the corners.

Though I won’t be done with my yard until next year, what I have learned so far will play a big part of how I plan out my Yard.

Creativity

Neccessity, the need to Improvise, Desire to improve or even just a desire to create something new and/or unique. Inspiration for Creativity has a variety or source as well. Such source can be Movies, Television, a thought, even dreams
